Pressure Headaches
By Wendy Simons
Life for many of us is a challenge to be met with anticipation. This anticipation can turn sour when we fall sick or fall foul of headaches. Sometimes these headaches give an early warning that there is something wrong with our bodies. When we know that this is the case then we should get medical help. There are also occasions where our headaches can be caused by our blood pressure. These headaches are called blood pressure headaches.
Many times blood pressure headaches are caused by high blood pressure. This condition is also called hypertension. Now while you may think that everyone who has high blood pressure is subject to getting blood pressure headaches this is not entirely true. Many of the people who have high blood pressure will not succumb to blood pressure related headaches.
The times that high blood pressure does cause a pressure headache is due to the fact that the individual’s blood pressure has increased. Blood pressure headaches occur when the blood pressure goes highly above what is the accepted norm for blood pressure. Other times blood pressure headaches may develop because there is a sudden and sharp increase in the blood pressure level.
For the person who has only a slight increase in their blood pressure, then the chances of blood pressure headaches affecting them is relatively low. While this is generally the case there are some people who are more susceptible to blood pressure headaches than other individuals.
Many of the victims of blood pressure headaches can be identified as women and various people who are over the age of fifty. These people who been targeted as potentially at risk from blood pressure headaches due to the readings that have been found on the blood pressure monitor. For these individuals a high diastolic reading means that the chance of getting blood pressure headaches is much higher than with other people.
For anyone who is over fifty years of age and if they have a high diastolic reading, they should notify their doctor. This is especially true of people who have both high blood pressure and headaches. Based upon your physical condition and your personal headache history the doctor will eliminate all other causes before stating whether you are suffering from blood pressure headaches or some other cause.
Fortunately there are treatments that are available for blood pressure headaches. Your doctor will be able to advise you on the suitability of these drugs. Besides using medication to lower your blood pressure headaches looking at different methods of reducing high blood pressure may also alleviate the blood pressure headaches.
You will need to be aware that some blood pressure medicines can actually cause blood pressure headaches. Should this situation take place you should inform your doctor so that a suitable replacement medication can be given.
