Home Improvement
By Arthur Sneddon
Home improvement can be anything from kitchen remodeling & bathroom remodeling to building an extension or a loft conversion.
Sometimes your kitchen may need remodelling which can be very expensive. A kitchen may look tired but, with new countertops, a row of tiles and a quick splash of paint you can bring new life to a set of old kitchen cabinets. Bathroom remodeling may also not be required, if you replace the flooring with tiles and change the bathroom fittings you can create a whole new look and feel in a day.
Such jobs are easily done by yourself if you have the right tools. Remember, you can pay a contractor to the job but if you do it yourself you will save cash. Even if you need to spend out on tools these can be used again on another job.
Home improvement is possibly the only option to take as the cost of owning your own home increases regularly. Making the jump from a 2 bedroomed house to a 4 bedroomed home in the same area may just be too expensive. However you may finde that you can afford an extension or loft conversion that gives you those extra rooms for a fraction of the cost! Take a look at your basement, this too may need little work to convert it in a new room for your house.
This may not be the right job for you if you have only just been introduced to the exciting world of DIY/do-it-yourself so your best option may be to hire a reputable builder. However you may find that you are up to flooring your loft and adding a window thus creating extra useable space. This type of home improvement can add value to your property but it certainly adds functionality. Once you have tried one DIY task you will find that other, more adventurous, jobs become a possibility.
Below are a couple of articles about Home Improvement Tips, further down is a larger selection of articles about home improvement:
Article #1: Home Improvement Tips
If you are trying to sell your home and haven’t had any luck, try these home improvement tips to add value to your home. However, before indulging in an expensive bathroom or kitchen remodel, always make an appointment with a decorator or realtor to get professional advice as to whether this is the best use for your money.
It could be that you can invest $15,000 more in your home in the hope that you will make it back when you sell your home for the asking price or something close to it. However, only a professional who specializes in selling homes and is familiar with your area can give you home improvement tips of where best to spend that $15,000.
Target Market
You also need to evaluate what the target market for your home is. Is it a young family with small kids who would like easy to wash walls and non-slip staircases or is it empty nesters who want all the classy upgrades like solid oak doors and vaulted ceilings? You may feel a Jacuzzi in the bathroom is a great idea, but the realtor’s home improvement tip may advise that a new bathroom floor will liven up the place; a Jacuzzi is only on the minds of some buyers, not all.
Experts do suggest that usually a kitchen or bathroom remodel gives the best return on money; however you need to know where to draw the line. Some things like hardwood flooring will always add value to your home. Other newer variations like laminate are better than vinyl and are much easier to clean, something buyers with kids or pets will prefer to high maintenance hard wood.
Another home improvement tip is to splurge on granite countertops and tile backsplash as they are two kitchen upgrades which many people like and are willing to spend more on. Easy slide open cabinets and organized pantry shelving are other extras that you can consider.
Neutral
At times it can be as simple as making your home appeal to a wider number of people. You may love your sunny, yellow kitchen but others may not. Toning it down to lemon yellow or better still beige will expand your target market. After all, you can paint your next kitchen yellow, orange or whatever you like.
Organize
Organization is another thing many people like. They may not keep their own closets or garages neatly stacked but they want to see it when they are house hunting. This home improvement tip works to your advantage because once your stuff is organized, you can show every square inch of space you have as well as get rid of your unnecessary clutter.
Article #2: Home Improvement Tips
A thought comes to you and you bound out of the chair and head for the corner where you went and stashed all your magazines. There were about two knee-high stacks worth of these magazines and you didn’t know what to do with them.
You might have thought about giving them to a charity or something like that, but you hadn’t bothered. But now, when you realized just how useful those home improvement tips had been, you were struck by what you can only call brilliance. Since all the home improvement tips had come in handy once, couldn’t it do so again?
And having done it once and learned from your mistakes and enjoyed yourself immensely into the bargain, you’re pretty sure there’s a good chance that you’ll be at it again before the season is out. And since these home improvement tips definitely wouldn’t date you could use them time and again, only changing the things here and there which might need it.
Basically though, the home improvement tips would come in good stead for you when you did your redecorating jaunt again. Besides, since most of these handy home improvement tips were suitable for small-budget décor changes they were all the more welcome for you.
And one thing that you could be certain of almost one hundred percent was that by the time you got through compiling your folder of handy home improvement tips, everyone you knew would want to borrow it. Especially after they saw how well your own redecorating attempts had fared. There’s nothing like the knowledge of a job well done to bring a sense of satisfaction to your mind.
So, if you want, a good home improvement tip would be to cut and store carefully all those home improvement tips that you find in magazines for a future date when you may want to use it. Besides, it makes a great conversational piece when you have the girls over for coffee!
