Prostate Infection
By Wendy Simons
I am sure that many of you have heard of prostate infection. This infection generally affects men over the age of 50. The prostate which is a gland that is located below the bladder and surrounds the urethra, becomes enlargened. You will find that most prostate infections are benign.
You will know that you are experiencing a prostate infection when you feel the need to urinate frequently. In many cases this need will arise during the night. There will be difficulty or even hesitancy in urinating. Sometimes you will be unable to completely empty the bladder. You may have a weak urine stream or you could even experience dribbling.
Some of the other symptoms of a prostate infection include fever, chills, pain behind the scrotum or even painful ejaculation. In some cases prostate infection can produce blood in the urine or semen. Should you have any of the symptoms of prostate infection then you should consult with your doctor.
For any individual who experiences any blood in their urine should get immediate medical treatment. This is the best procedure so that any other medical complication can be ruled out. However herbal and nutritional therapies can be used if the prostate infection is benign. This course of treatment will ease the discomfort of the sufferer and sometimes it can delay the need for traditional medications and surgery.
Prostate infection is a non cancerous condition so while this complaint can give you some pain you will not have to worry about a life threatening disease. The reasons for prostate infections are BPH or as they are more properly know as benign prostatic hyperplasia, or hypertrophy.
It will take some time for the prostate infection to develop. There may be very little in the way of symptoms to inform you that you are developing a prostate infection. However if you are over 50 years of age then you should have your doctor give you an examination to rule out the possibility of cancer formations.
The other type of prostate infection that can occur is that of prostatitis. This is much more serious than prostate infection. Prostatitis is caused by a bacterial infection that starts in some other location in the urinary tract. It can even come about because of cancer. In this form of prostate infection the swelling of the prostate or the growth of a tumor in the groin can disrupt the flow of urine.
For many men getting a prostate infection is almost a certainty. Therefore as you age you should see your doctor regularly so that you can find out if you are at risk from a prostate infection. With proper treatment you can reduce the chances of prostate infection turning even more serious.
