Causes of Mouth Ulcers
By Wendy Simons
There are people in the world who suffer from mouth ulcers. These ulcers are open wounds in the mucous membrane area of the mouth. The victims of mouth ulcers are not sure what the exact causes of mouth ulcers are. For this reason they have no clear idea as how to treat their mouth ulcers.
There is not much information about the causes of mouth ulcers but many medical professional think that our body’s immune system may be the reason for mouth ulcers to develop. The triggers that activate our immune system are many. These include toothpastes and mouthwashes that include a substance called sodium lauryl sulfate.
Using products that have this chemical causes our mouth to become dry. This drying effect compromises the mouth tissues leaving them vulnerable to various irritants. These irritants can trigger the body’s lymphocytes to attack the sodium lauryl sulfate that is still in the mouth.
Eliminating the use of products with this chemical can help to stop mouth ulcers. The other causes of mouth ulcers can be attributed to mechanical trauma and emotional stress. In mechanical trauma it is a physical trauma like a self inflicted bite, irritation of some sort that was caused by a sharp tooth edge or even some food types that can cause mouth ulcers to form.
Some people have found their they will become affected by mouth ulcers due to stress. In particular emotional and psychological stress has been found to increase the likely hood of mouth ulcer formation.
In some cases there are infectious agents that are both bacterial and viral in nature that are considered as causes of mouth ulcers. The various chemical compounds that are found within the infectious agents are perhaps one of the reasons for mouth ulcers forming.
Certain medical conditions have been found to be associated with the formation of mouth ulcers. These medical conditions include Behcet's disease, neutrophil dysfunction diseases, inflammatory bowel diseases, celiac and Crohn's, and also HIV-AIDS disease. For individuals who have difficulty with their mouth ulcers it is possible that they should have a medical test taken. From the results of the test they will be able to see if there are any underlying problems in the causes of mouth ulcer fro them.
The use of medications has also been found to be one of the causes of mouth ulcers. Various nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or NSAIDs, beta blockers, chemotherapeutic agents, and nicorandil have each been found be the possible causes for an outbreak of mouth ulcers.
There are many possible reasons as to the causes of mouth ulcers. However until we have positive medical proof we can only work on the evidence that various triggers have shown. With this information there is hope that one day we will know how to eradicate the presence of mouth ulcers.
